Nationals´ Ryan Zimmerman breaks franchise record with 235th home run

17 juillet 2017 22:18

The Washington Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman secured himself a piece of franchise history on Monday with his 235th career home run.

The first baseman reached the milestone by smashing a homer in the first inning of a crushing 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

His tally of 235 puts him at the top of the franchise's home run list, with Zimmerman surpassing Vladimir Guerrero, who hit his homers for the Montreal Expos. The Expos moved to Washington D.C. before the 2005 season, Zimmerman's rookie year.

Guerrero took to Twitter to congratulate Zimmerman on the feat, posting: "Records are made to be broken, congratulations Ryan Zimmerman, being No. 2 is not bad."

Zimmerman is in his 13th season with the Nationals. In seven of those campaigns - including this one - he has blasted 20 or more home runs.
