The New York Yankees finally found a taker for Sonny Gray, with the pitcher headed to the Cincinnati Reds.
The final piece in the deal was Gray agreeing to a three-year contract extension beginning in 2020 that The Athletic reported is worth $30.5million. Gray already is under contract for 2019 at $7.5m.
The Reds also acquired minor league left-hander Reiver Sanmartin in the trade, sending the Yankees highly regarded second base prospect Shed Long and a 2019 competitive balance draft pick in return.
New York then flipped Long to the Seattle Mariners for outfield prospect Josh Stowers. Unlike Long, Stowers will not need to be on the 40-man roster, so that move combined with moving Gray clears a spot for the Yankees to make the Adam Ottavino signing official.

Cincinnati had already shored up their rotation this offseason by acquiring Tanner Roark from the Washington Nationals and Alex Wood from the Los Angeles Dodgers (along with outfielders Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp).
Gray, 29, had a rough first full season in New York in 2018 after coming over in a deadline-deal with the Oakland Athletics. Manager Aaron Boone dropped him from the rotation at the beginning of August when Gray's ERA stood at 5.56. He made only nine appearances the rest of the season.
The Yankees had no plans to return him to the rotation in 2019, and general manager Brian Cashman has said publicly throughout the offseason that Gray was available. The Reds are a logical bounce-back spot for Gray, as the team have hired his former pitching coach at Vanderbilt, Derek Johnson, to fill the same role in Cincinnati.
Long, 23, hit .261 with 12 home runs and 19 stolen bases in Double-A last year.
Sanmartin, 22, walked just four batters while striking out 58 in 67.1 innings for four Yankees minor-league teams last season.
Stowers, 21, was Seattle's second-round pick out of Louisville in last summer's draft and slashed .260/.380/.410 with five homers and 20 stolen bases in 58 minor league games last year.
