The United States dished out a ruthless 13-1 thrashing to South Korea to remain top of Group B at the IIHF World Championship on Friday.

After falling behind to Ahn Jin-hui's power play strike, the USA put their rock-bottom opponents to the sword to stay firmly on track for the playoffs.

Ill-discipline proved a recurring theme for the Koreans and they suffered the consequences as the goals quickly mounted up, Anders Lee with the leveller.

Patrick Kane, Charlie McAvoy, Derek Ryan, Blake Coleman, Cam Atkinson, Tage Thompson, Neal Pionk and Sonny Milano shared the rest of the goals.

Also in Group B, hosts Denmark secured a key 3-0 win over Norway to push themselves into the frame for the playoffs.

Forward Nicklas Jensen scored twice on the power play, with Frederik Storm rounding off the scoring to move the Danes into fourth.

The two Group A fixtures combined did not yield as many goals as America plundered, with Czech Republic looking good for a last-eight spot following a 3-0 victory over winless Belarus, while France overcame fellow likely also-rans Austria 5-2.
