Johnathan Thurston has signed a one-year contract extension with North Queensland Cowboys, allowing him to see out his career with the club.
Half-back Thurston joined the Cowboys from Canterbury Bulldogs in 2005 and has since established himself as the best player in the NRL, winning the Dally M Medal, awarded to the competition's player of the year, four times.
His drop-goal in golden-point extra time gave the Cowboys a first NRL title as they beat Brisbane Broncos 17-16 in the Grand Final in 2015.
Thurston, who was a substitute when Canterbury won the title in 2004 and played in the Cowboys' 2005 Grand Final defeat, also won the World Club Challenge in 2016 and helped Australia regain the World Cup in 2013.
The 34-year-old's glittering career is nearing its conclusion and Thurston has no intention of ending it with any other club.
"It's a real joy to be able to say I'll be continuing on with the Cowboys in NRL season 2018," Thurston told the Cowboys' official website.
"This club has given me so much over my 13 years here. I've played alongside some great talents, worked with amazing people and shared in phenomenal successes.
"It's been a real privilege to be associated with the North Queensland Cowboys and now that the deal is done, I can concentrate on my footy and helping my team-mates on and off the field."
Cowboys head coach Paul Green added: "Johnathan's a class act, is one of the fiercest competitors I've seen play rugby league and to have him see out his career here is wonderful news and a credit to all involved.
"He's developed into a true leader in that he leads by example. He's always a pleasure to coach and he's a true mentor for our younger guys coming through."
